Uncle McAllister gives Louis a tadpole for his birthday. Louis names the tadpole Alphonse and feeds him cheeseburgers. Alphonse gets so big and unruly that Louis has to take him to obedience school, and when he outgrows the bathtub, Alphonse needs a new home. There is something funny about this tadpole - shouldn't he be a frog by now? Louis is running out of ideas, but Ms. Seevers the librarian has it all figured out. The 25th Anniversary Edition has beautiful new illustrations!
