What would it be like if the ducks got together and danced on Friday night every week? This rhyming, active book tells us all about it.

Apparently all kids are the same- the kids in this book do the same things that my children do in the winter.  The book describes getting dressed, playing outside, playing inside, making messes!  The drawings are simple and fun to look at.  The writing is rhyming and fun to listen to.  A cute, simple book.  My 9 year old boy was not a fan, but the girls age 8 and 6 enjoyed this book.

What a fun book for my kids ages 9, 8 and 6.  At first they said, "Another alphabet book?!"  I assured them this one was different, they would like it and enjoy looking at the amazing pictures.  They weren't disappointed.  An otter is having 26 friends over for a housewarming party.  Each friend is bringing something to add to the soup pot- of course each ingredient starts with a different letter of the alphabet.  Our favorite letter was "B" and the kids asked me to go back and read that one again.  Cute story and beautiful artwork.

The Matchbox Diary
Author: Paul Fleischman

This is a brand new book- just out in 2013.  I am often disappointed in newer books because I feel that so many of them lack a good, wholesome story.  This book took me by surprise as the story captured our attention (kids ages 9, 8 and 6), taught us a little history and the artwork is beautiful.  The book tells the story of a little girl visiting with her great grandpa as he tells her the story of his coming to America from Italy.  A touching story.  I would highly recommend this book!

Our family has been learning about music and this was a fun, short read that we enjoyed together.  It tells the story of Farkle McBride and his amazing talent for music- only he easily grows bored of the instruments he plays- moving from one to the other until he finds the musical thing he enjoys doing the most!  The pictures are excellent.  The expressions on the people's faces are so clear and fun to study.  It captured my children's interest (ages 9, 8 and 6) and mine (mom's) as well!  The words in the book rhyme and are fun to read.  My children enjoyed picking out the instruments they knew of and learning a few new ones, too.  This was a cute story and I recommend it for families who want something short and fun to read.

This is a beautiful picture book about cross country skiing and the hibernating worlds that are inhabited beneath the snow and under our footsteps. This book is a great reminder that all of nature at rest will reemerge in the spring. Come on spring!

For old Mo Willems fans (& new!) this is a great take on the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. I used this as a companion to the original during story time and it was a huge hit! Fun for parents AND kids.

This book rhymes (with challenging vocabulary) and gives a spin on why George Washington may have decided to go into politics. Amusing!

Benji looks a lot like Lincoln and he doesn't like it. His parents send him to a camp where people look like things and he discovers that he is proud of his looks and who he looks like. Fun!
