Board Book

Author: Nina Laden

A smiling, just starting to walk, 11 month old came to visit me at the library today. Here are my recommendations for her:

Peek-a-who? is a vibrantly colored, fun board book with a simple rhyme with a cut-out to help guess what is coming on the next page. Youngsters love repetition, so this book may be read over and over.

Mama, Do You Love Me? is another board book, this one following an Inuit daughter and mother through their day. The daughter questions the depth of her mother's love and is always met with the reassurance of unconditional love.

The picture book Little Quack features bright colored images of a duck and her ducklings. Readers can count along as mama duck encourages each of the ducklings to move into the water and share in Little Quack's success.

Baby Loves is a book containing objects that are familiar and loveable for young children. You and the toddler that you are reading with can continue the list with your own favorites!

Enjoy!

Author: Sandra Boynton

Boynton begins her newest board book asking little readers how they are that day. "Are you as happy as a hippo? Or angry as a duck? Maybe sad as a chicken? (Can you sadly say cluck cluck?)." Children will delight in Boynton's signature illustrations while enjoyably learning that our moods change every day. Unless you are the duck of course, because he is always that way!

Title: Carry Me
Author: Rena Grossman

This board book depicts the universal need of all babies to be carried by a parent.... on their back, on their front, on their side, in a basket, in a sling.... you get the picture.  Best of all is the beautiful multicultural photographs that show not only the differences but the similarities of babies all over the world.  Love the last pages that show where in the world the photos were taken.  I'll definitely use this book for the 2011 Summer Library Program: One World, Many Stories.

In My Den

Title: In My Den
Author: Sara Gillingham

Oh My Gosh there is a puppet right in the book. Cutest book ever.

My Red Mittens

Author: Candy Crocker

This book is about a boy who delights in a winter's day as he puts on his new pair of fuzzy, red mittens and goes out to play in the snow. Children will love touching the fuzzy, red mittens on every page of this book. Follow along on his adventures building a snowman, tasting an icicle and packing snowballs. The wonderful text and colorful illustration make this book a winner.

I am 9 years old. I think this book is a really cute idea because their parents can teach them how to sign animals. I like that one page has the picture of an animal and the next has the sign for the animal.
