This is a fun to read aloud and scream at the top of your lungs your SOS, "Chickens to the Rescue!" In they come and save the situation. Very funny!

Vagabond in the Air

Author: Candace Fleming

Fleming's biography of Earhart's life and disappearance is refreshing in that it not only describes the aviatrix as a pioneer, but also as a sloppy pilot with a promoter husband that kept her name and photo in the headlines. The research needed to create this book is extraordinary. Amelia was a woman who willingly took great risks with no regrets.

Buffalo Music

Author: Tracey E. Fern

After hunters kill off the buffalo around her Texas ranch, a woman begins raising orphaned buffalo calves and eventually ships four members of her small herd to Yellowstone National Park, where they form the beginnings of newly thriving buffalo herds. This book is fictional, but based on actual events.  I love the narrative in this story.  It is full of similes and cowpoke twang.  It would be a lot of fun to read aloud.  I thoroughly enjoyed it though it is sad to think about that original buffalo herd.  At the end of the story, there is a section where the author explains who the story is based on and gives a good amount of information.  She also gives you book titles and websites where you can find out more.  This book is appropriate for all ages.
