Pulled Into a Whole New World

bookcover
Author: Rick Riordan

Carter and Sadie Kane are just spending Christmas Eve with their Dad, who has a little secret he is keeping from them. You see, Carter and Sadie come from a long family line of wizards, that is Egyptian wizards. Their families are very active in the house of life, but their parents have betrayed it countless times, one time even caused their Mom's death. Carter and Sadie's parents believed that the house of life needs to team up with the Egyptian Gods in order to save the World, but they didn't think of the effects that idea may have had on their children. After Carter and Sadie's Dad gets trapped in a tomb and sent to the Duat, the Egyptian underworld, by the god named Set, their uncle takes them in and teaches them about the life their parents falied to tell them they lived.

In just a few short months, Carter and Sadie are forced to face the gods, in good ways and bad, and unite with them to save themselves and the rest of the world. Thanks to their parents, they are pulled into a completely different world, and forced to be the leaders. That is a lot to put on a 14 and a 12 year old. The author did a good job at explaining the details and keeping the book exciting, and for that, I give this book four thumbs up!

This book I actually own, and

This book I actually own, and they miss a MAJOR part of the book, which is that Sadie owns a cat named Muffin, and the cat turns out to be a goddess named Bast. She is the goddess of cats, which explains the amulet around Muffin's neck all this time. Their big enemy is actually Apophis in the end of the book, who is a big snake that is the God of Chaos, and they have sequel called the Throne of Fire. Just for those people out there who like to spoil the ending for themselves, Sadie chants a spell to get rid of Set forever, but she ends up not completing the spell, and throws the feather of truth in the air and it breaks the spell, forcing Apophis to show himself. Set ends up making a compromise that he will help them defeat Apophis but if he betrays them, Sadie will use the spell again and she will complete the spell this time. She falls in love with the god of funerals and Carter is taught basketball by a baboon.
