Title: Wake
Author: Amanda Hocking

2.5 Stars

The Mad Scientist thought she should give Amanda Hocking a gander since I've heard so much about her other series, which I have not read yet. Added to the good chatter is the promise of Mermaids. Sounds wonderful to me.

I fancy the idea of Siren's. In the beginning my curiosity was allowing the story to grab me, making me want to know more. Albeit, it didn't take long for my head to start shaking. The narration was just... What to say to explain it? Bizarre.

Gemma was enthralled by the water, aiming for the Olympics (which impressed me greatly) before the Sirens drew her away with their own enthralling magic. There is something wrong with these beautiful Sirens and the whole town feels it. Gemma fought as hard as she could but who could say no to the mythological creatures of the sea. Her practical overprotective older sister, Harper, also did in her own way... without knowing it. Oh, that just makes you wonder now doesn't it?

If you know anything about myths, I bet you are waiting to hear about the bad stuff that goes along with every immortals story. Sure enough, these Sirens bring darkness over the small city in Maryland. It is grim. (But I can't tell. *wink wink* )

Author: Tsugumi Ōba

This book is a fantastic book for someone who loves suspense, crime novels, and mangas. I thought this book was a great book because it had two of my favorite characters in the book. Anyone who wants to read this should, because it has an interesting saga following it. I really loved this book.

Title: Bruiser
Author: Neal Shusterman

This is a read I would highly recommend to both boys & girls. Tennyson & Bronte are teenage twins whose parents happen to be literature professors. Tennyson is not pleased that his sister has recently started dating Brewster (aka Bruiser), the boy voted "most likely to get the death penalty." Bruiser lives with his mean, alcoholic uncle and his 8 year old brother, Cody. The family is perceived as "no good" and pretty much keeps to themselves.

Alton is a teenager who builds a relationship with his great uncle Lester. Lester is blind but still wants to play the card game bridge. Alton becomes Lester's card turner. Lester tells Alton which cards to turn over during the course of the game. In this book we learn a lot about bridge--it a game of strategy and wit and the game is not over when you leave the table! But the book also incorporates Alton's struggles with friendship, love, and most of all, figuring out what it means to be family. There is a supernatural component toward the end of the book that is very interesting but that is all that I will say! A good, fast read.

Title: Shade
Author: Jeri Smith-Ready

One word for this book: dissapointment. Aura goes to her boyfriend Logan's birthday party, expecting it to be the best day in his life. And the last. Logan dies of over-drug dose. Because of Aura's powers, she can still she Logan, but feels something for the new and Scottish guy, Zachary. Aura wants Logan to stay, and not pass on, but the chances of him becoming a "Shade" are good. The book wasn't anything like I had hoped it to be, and I found myself having to keep myself from falling asleep while reading.

Author: Charlaine Harris

This is one of Charlaine Harris' new books. It's good if you like a book with a steady pace of excitement, sometimes its hard to keep up. There's drama through and through. Sookie Stackhouse, a barmaid from Bon Temps, Louisiana is always getting into trouble, in this book she ends up having to get saved multiple times and even ends up becoming pledged to a vampire by accident for her own protection. Her Great-Grandfather is back and he carries the most secret things of all. Many Fae, Supes, and Vamps may die. War has broken out and everyone must be on there look out. The Faery world may be closed forever. Sookie also finds out a great secret about her parents. This is probably my most favorite series in the history of books.
